Configuring archiving
Archiving principles
In Watchdoc®, the archiving function can be activate in order to save the spool files (.SPL and .SHD) on the server.
The archiving function is used to meet two specific needs:
-
a user's need to quickly reprint a job that has been closed on the work station;
-
an administrator's need to save the job spools for analysis in the event of a printing issue of unknown origin or that is difficult to reproduce.
Archiving can be:
-
total, when automatically applied without differentiation to all print jobs
-
targeted, when applied to specific print jobs selected by application of a rule (applied to a print queue or print queue group).
Prerequisites
The archiving function is deactivated by default on Watchdoc® as it occupies disc space. Before activation, check that there is enough available disc space for storing the Archives.
Steps
To activate, the archiving function must be configured at:
-
server level (as explained in this chapter),
-
the level of a specific print queue or print queue group (see chapter on configuring a print queue or print queue group).
