Configuring archiving
Archiving principles
In Watchdoc, the archiving function can be activate in order to save the spool files (.SPL and .SHD) on the server.
The archiving function is used to meet two specific needs:
-
a user's need to quickly reprint a job that has been closed on the work station;
-
an administrator's need to save the job spools for analysis in the event of a printing issue of unknown origin or that is difficult to reproduce.
Archiving can be:
-
total, when automatically applied without differentiation to all print jobs
-
targeted, when applied to specific print jobs selected by application of a rule (applied to a print queue or print queue group).
Prerequisites
The archiving function is deactivated by default on Watchdoc as it occupies disc space. Before activation, check that there is enough available disc space for storing the Archives.
Steps
To activate, the archiving function must be configured at:
-
server level (as explained in this chapter),
-
the level of a specific print queue or print queue group (see chapter on configuring a print queue or print queue group).
