Make a Watchdoc dump with MS Process Explorer

Context

Occasionally, Watchdoc usage issues occur on the server: for example, unusually high CpU consumption or memory space.

The Watchdoc activity is traced in log files, but if this files do not contains information, it can be useful to make a "full-dump" to analyse the root cause of a malfunction, for example, in order to diagnose the problem.

Presentation

To make a full-dump, it's possible to use several methods. We recommand the use of the executable software Microsoft® Sysinternals Process Explorer, available on the Microsoft® website: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

The tool must be launched from the server on which is installed Watchdoc®. It does not need any pre installation.

A "full dump" requieres several hundred of nécessite plusieurs centaines de mega bytes, even giga bytes. It is therefore necessary to check the available space on the partition where the dump.s file should be saved.

Process

  1. From the Microsoft ®site, https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx, download the executable software Sysinternals Process Explorer and record it on your workspace.

  2. From the repository on which is recorded Sysinternal Process Explorer, launch procexp.exe;

  3. In the executable software Process Explorer - Sysinternals www.sysinternals.com, click on the Watchdoc.exe > Create Dump > Create Full Dump service;
