Print queue mode

Watchdoc operates print queues in different modes that can be configured (see Configuring a print queue).

Physical queue

This is a queue associated with a printing device (printer or MFP). This queue is dedicated to a single device.

Virtual queue

A virtual queue is a queue that is not assigned to a device but which is tasked with retaining the print-job ready for sending it to the network device when requested by the user.

This type of queue takes effect into play when using the "Print-on-demand" activation allowing a user to send their print-jobs without designating a specific printer and retrieving their print-jobs from the printer of their choice once they have authenticated themselves to it.

To configure a virtual queue, select the group or the mode "Virtual queue" when configuring the queue (cf. Print queue configuration procedure).

Since the virtual queue sends print jobs to various devices with very different capabilities, we recommend that you configure this queue with maximum capabilities (see the Devices section : color printing, double-sided printing, and large format) in order to optimize its efficiency.

For more détails, see Configure a print queue.

Universal queue

This is a logical queue created exclusively for the Watchdoc Print Client (WPC) function. It allows users to launch their print requests from WPC for Windows, WPC for Android or Skyprint, then physically release their prints on one of the compatible devices.

The universal queue uses the Doxense spooler (custom spooler) and does not use the MS Windows spooler. Furthermore, it does not exist on the MS Windows server.

The universal queue requires a type 3 printer driver.
For more details, see Configure a universal queue.

Proxy queue

When Watchdoc is installed in a domain (master/slave configuration) and the Interserver printing feature is enabled, a proxy queue is a queue managed on a slave server and made available to other slave servers. The proxy queue is then visible in a server's queue list, even though it is not managed by that server. To view proxy queues, enable the ‘proxy’ filter in the queue list.
