Notifications - Presentation

Principles relating to notifications

The Watchdoc tool can send alert messages to its users or administrators.

These messages, triggered by predefined events, are sent by e-mail.

Configuring notifications therefore requires :

  • prior configuration of the service, enabling the associated technical parameters to be specified ;

  • configuring the triggering events, the content of the message sent and the recipient(s).

    The notification contains a non-configurable default message as well as the Message section configured in the rule that triggers the notification.

The Notification configuration button is used to call up the notification settings interface.

Description of the Events section

The Events section displays a preset list of events (symbolised by the pictogram) triggering a notification.

These events are arranged by types:

  • events relating to print job,

  • events relating to print queues,

  • events of other kinds.

Certain events are triggered by non-modifiable criteria or thresholds:

  • Accounting payment problem: when the quota level reaches the critical threshold of 10% ;

  • Device unreachable: from the first attempt to communicate with the device. It is therefore advisable to use this event for analysis and diagnostic purposes only;

  • Service operation error: if the system is unable to execute a scheduled task relating to Watchdoc, is unable to contact the database or if the MS Windows spooler is faulty;

Other events depend on configurable criteria:

This list displays the following information:

  • A pictogram symbolising the type of event,

  • The event name (detailed in a message displayed by a message balloon when the mouse passes over it),

  • Enabling or disabling e-mail notifications for the event, monitoring the related parameter,

  • a Modify button for accessing the event configuration tool.
